Sunset After the Rain, and White Blossoms Along the River

Faint sunset glow breaking through the clouds, and white spider lilies blooming upright along the river. An evening walk thinking of Jiro-chan resting quietly inside his shelter, followed by a warm dinner at home.

The rain stopped, and I stepped outside to take in the fresh air.

Looking up, rays of sunset broke through the thick clouds. Under a sky where pale pink and gold blended together, the wet asphalt reflected the soft light.

I walked along the familiar riverside path. In the grass, I spotted white spider lilies standing straight and blooming with poise. Their white petals, holding drops of rain, stood out quietly against the evening green.

I passed before the netting-enclosed shelter along the river. Jiro-chan wasn’t visible today, but he was surely resting comfortably inside out of the rain. Walking this path while wondering “is he there today?” has become a dear part of my daily life.

On the river surface, ducks floated gently, and low clouds trailed over the distant mountain ridges.

Returning home, the vines on the balcony were stretching their hands high, reaching all the way to the top of the laundry pole. And on the table stood a bowl of fresh seafood rice, warm soup, and savory chawanmushi (steamed egg custard).

Breathing in the outside air deeply, and enjoying a delicious meal. Such ordinary moments carry a warmth of their own right here.

Today was another good day.
