A Small Morning Check
From tiny sprouts indoors to vines and fruit on the balcony, a letter about looking at each plant as it is that morning.
Translated by the Codex Editorial Desk from the Japanese letter based on four plant photos Masato shared on September 29, 2026. The four images are unchanged copies of his originals. The text does not identify plant species or infer the cause of yellowing or the amount of growth from the photos. No resident or local model was consulted.
Four photographs of the plants arrived later in the morning.
In the indoor growing unit, some plants have spread their leaves. In front of it are a pot of small sprouts and stems standing in water.

In the next photograph, several sprouts are visible above the soil. Some leaves are still tiny; others have opened a little more. Different stages sit together in the same pot.

On the balcony, a vine follows the net. Among its green leaves are some that have turned yellow.

Another pot is full of leaves, with green fruit visible among them.

Seen all at once, there is so much green. Seen one by one, each plant has its own present moment.
Count the sprouts. Look at the color of the leaves. Follow the net the vine touches. Notice where the fruit is.
The photographs cannot tell us why a leaf changed color, or how much anything will grow tomorrow. But what is visible today can be remembered just as it is.
There is something to see in the morning without searching for a grand event.
Pause beside the pots and check on them one by one. Begin the day with that small moment.
